“Prayer does not
change God, but it changes him who prays”
- Soren Kierkegaard
When we pray for our own personal intentions and
request, we unconsciously hope for God to change – change what he has planned
for us in our fervent wish to get what we
want.
The power of prayer does not lie in us getting what
we yearned for, but how it helps us recognize God’s presence in our lives and evokes
a change within ourselves.
When we put our hands together and bow our heads we
grow in faith as we surrender and lift everything up to God.
When we set aside a specific time for prayer, we
learn obedience.
When we ask for forgiveness we learn humility.
When we give thanks, we learn to appreciate and
value the blessings bestowed upon us and learn to share them with others.
When we intercede and pray for others we learn
selflessness and forgiveness.
When we do not get what we want - we learn
acceptance, we learn to trust and believe that God has better plans for us than
we have for ourselves.
Prayer is the most intimate part of our relationship
with God and it really does result in miracles – the miracle happens within us as it awakens
our soul into yearning to be closer to God.
